Private Lessons for children and adolescents ages 9 - 17 are offered in a one-hour, once-a-week or once-every-other-week format, depending on the needs of the student, family, and instructor involved. Lessons are taught by three different instructors: Linda Faulkner, Myrt Wise, and Cathie Fithian. All of the instructors work very well with children and teach the same basic program of lessons, but because of individual personality differences they may present those lessons in slightly varying ways. Lesson times are offered Tuesday and Wednesday in the after-school hours (during the school year), daytime hours (in the summer), and evenings. (A few Saturday lesson times are also available during the school year.) Cost of a one-hour lesson with any instructor is $23. Students DO NOT need to sign up for a specific number of lessons at one time, and lessons may begin whenever the student is ready to start and a suitable time slot is available. Cathie Fithian is available to teach home-schooled students and beginning adult students during daytime hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the year.
The private lessons are a series of basic, foundation-type instruction sessions designed to give serious instruction specifically in the area of DRAWING. Students keep a special sketchbook for use in these lessons only. They are taught techniques, materials and vocabulary needed to build a firm base in drawing. With a positive, supportive atmosphere they gain awareness, learn how to observe and enjoy exploring the world of fine art. More advanced teenage students will be given an evaluation based on their previous work and started at a lesson level appropriate to their experience. Some may wish to focus on building a portfolio for use in applying to art school. Student progress will be evaluated by the instructors and students may be offered a spot in small group lessons when a teacher feels it is appropriate.
Time slots for lessons are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon receipt of your registration form, you will receive a phone call informing you of available time slots. Depending on demand, it may be necessary for a potential student's name to be added to a waiting list. In this case you will be called as soon as an open time slot becomes available. If you have any questions, please call The Linden Tree at (330) 494-8951.
