To Commission a Sepia Portrait:

Laurene Puls will render a sepiatone* drawing of your ancestor, favorite Civil War hero, or perhaps yourself in reenactment clothing to look as though you were photographed during the Civil War.  Laurene works using photographic reference, supplementing the photographs with time-appropriate detail.  The two of you may work together via email or by postal mail and the telephone.  Follow the steps below to turn your photograph into a work of fine art:

Step 1:  Send a photograph that you would like to have rendered in a portrait for the artist to review:

A.  If you would like an old photograph used as reference, select one of the following:

1.  Scan the photograph at 300 resolution and email it to gpuls@neo.rr.com

--OR--

2.  Mail the photograph, or a photographic reproduction of the photograph to:  Laurene Puls, 1245 Echo Street NE, Canton, OH  44721

B.  If you wish to replicate the aged sepia look using a modern photograph, please send in either black-and-white or color, a close-up photograph of the subject in desired attire as described under point A.

C.  There are many considerations in using reference materials.  Points A and B above are simply starting points.  Laurene will let you know of supplemental materials that may be needed after reviewing your basic photograph.

Step 2:  After reviewing the reference photograph that you send, Laurene will send you options on how the portrait could be rendered.  She will suggest a size and let you know the supplemental materials that might help her to maximize the results of the finished portrait and approximately how long it will take for her to finish portrait orders received ahead of yours.

Step 3:  Upon your approval of the layout and receipt of a $150 deposit--half of the $300 portrait fee**--the drawing can begin and an estimated date for delivery will be given.  (No less than 4 to 6 weeks should be expected.)

Step 4:  Your finished 8" x 10" portrait will be shipped per your instructions with a presentation mat ready to frame in a standard size 11 x 14 frame.  The balance of $150 plus sales tax and shipping costs will be sent to you separately, with payment due upon arrival of the artwork.

*Sepia Portraits are monochromatic colored pencil rendering reminiscent of the brownish tones seen in  century old photographs.  The photographs on this page do not represent the color accurately.

**If you wish to have more than one person, a finished image larger than 8" x 10", or a detailed background developed, there will be charges added to the $300 basic monochromatic portrait charge.
