Colored Pencil Drawing Classes for Adults

Winter Weather Cancellations and Missed Classes

Amy Lindenberger will hold classes as scheduled when conditions in the immediate studio area are good enough to allow her to do so.  However, if you do not feel that it is safe for you to get to the studio, for any reason, your missed class will be considered an emergency situation and you will receive a make-up for that classes.  Please call the studio and leave a message if you will not be coming into class; you will not lose credit for that class period.

If a morning class is cancelled, Amy will begin telephoning student by 8 am.  If an evening class is cancelled, you will be informed by 4:30 pm.

Description of Pencil/Colored Pencil Class Series:

Colored pencil drawing is a fascinating technique which provides excellent experience in color mixing and blending without the expense, mess, or set-up time of oil and acrylic paint. Students say they find it very satisfying because they are able to control the medium to a greater degree than is possible with paints, while at the same time achieve a rich, painted effect. Colored pencil also enables the student to achieve a high degree of detail. In addition, colored pencil work provides a good foundation for students wishing to learn oil or acrylic painting from other art instructors.

Eight-week colored pencil classes are taught on an Intermediate Level and an Advanced Level. The Intermediate Level class concentrates heavily on teaching students to accurately see values and color and to be able to create those values and colors in a drawing. More advanced colored pencil techniques are introduced. Advanced Level students focus on development and completion of a single, large-scale project. Emphasis is placed on making students aware of the various kinds of decisions that need to be made in the development of a completed project. Advanced Level classes may be repeated as many times as a student chooses, since the student may select a different project each session.  Intermediate and Advanced Level Classes are taught by Amy Lindenberger.

Class Information

All classes are mixed-level; same-level students will be grouped together as much as possible, but both levels may meet in the same classroom at the same time. This has generally worked very well for our classes; however, if you have concerns about this format, please call Amy Lindenberger at The Linden Tree, 330 494-8951. Prospective students are asked to list time/day preferences on the registration form, and student preferences will be honored as much as possible. Once your check has been deposited, you may assume that you have been given your first choice for time and day, even if you have not yet received written confirmation. Each class will be limited to sixteen students to allow adequate time to devote to each student. Because of this limit, classes fill early. It is a good idea to send in the registration form as soon as possible.

Class sessions are eight weeks long, with one class meeting per week, and each class meeting is 2 1/2 hours long. Mornings classes are from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Evening classes from 6:30 - 9:00 PM.  Check the homepage of this website or the current registration form for available classes.

Students New to the Linden Tree

Colored Pencil Drawing for Beginners is an eight-week course for adults* who wish to learn basic drawing skills taught by Cathie Fithian.  Any new student who feels that they have sufficient drawing and color pencil skills to begin at the intermediate or advanced level should speak with Amy Lindenberger about class placement.

*For class placement purposes, an "adult" is a high school graduate who is at least 18 years of age.

Deposits and Class Fees

Half of the class fee must be paid as a deposit to reserve your space in a class. Once payment is made toward a class, this money is not refundable, except in the event that the session is canceled by the studio or the student's first and second choice of class times are unavailable. Should you make a payment now and later find that you will be unable to take the classes at the time reserved, a credit slip for your payment amount will be issued to you. This credit is redeemable on any future class session taught by Amy Lindenberger at The Linden Tree.

Class Make-ups

Each student is entitled to ONE free make-up class per eight week session for any reason. (Student are asked to please call the studio and leave a message in advance if you know that you will be unable to attend your regularly scheduled class.)  Make-up classes can be attended during any other class during that session where seating is available, or during the week immediately following the eight-week session that is designated for make-up classes. Arrangements must be made with Amy for make-up classes.

Credit Slips are issued under the following circumstances to be applied to the next session in which you register:

Gift Certificates for classes are a popular gift for family members to give Linden Tree students to help defray their expenses.  See Amy for details.

Workshop Payment Policy

To hold a spot in a workshop, students must return a completed registration form with the deposit that is required as stated on the registration form. The balance is due the first morning of the workshop. A full refund of the deposit will be made if the request is made before or on the cancellation date printed on the registration form.
